Ab is a Stone Age boy who grows to young manhood amid the many dangers of his times. Ab is introduced as a curious and adventurous child, rescued by his mother from an imminent threat during his first interactions with the wild. His family, leaders among the cave dwellers, guide Ab through his childhood and adolescence, helping him develop essential survival skills. He befriends Oak, another young cave dweller, and together they share numerous adventures, including capturing a baby rhino from a pit and participating in mammoth hunts with the rest of the tribe. As Ab grows up, he demonstrates courage and resourcefulness, qualities that help him stand out from the other members of his community. He marries Lightfoot, a resourceful and fearless young woman who shares his adventures and with whom he builds a partnership based on mutual learning and overcoming dangers.
