Origin[]
The “Antarctic Godzilla” is a cryptid that was encountered by the crew of Japanese research ship Soya on the 13th of February, 1958 off the coast of Antarctica, named after the famous movie monster by the ship's captain. Despite the name, the creature was described as a large marine mammal with hair and external ears. It has been suggested to be a misidentified whale or seal, or even a late surviving desmostylian (an extinct order of marine mammal).
