Origin[]
Azathoth, sometimes called The Blind Idiot God, the Nuclear Chaos, the Daemon Sultan, The Deep Dark, and The Cold One, is a fictional deity in the Cthulhu Mythos, described as a cosmic entity beyond human comprehension.
Azathoth occupies a position of supreme omnipotent being in the pantheon of Lovecraftian deities, often described as a mindless, formless entity existing in a state of perpetual frenzy at the center of the Milky Way galaxy, universe, or possibly beyond it. The depictions provided by various witnesses vary, but it is frequently depicted as a swirling mass of chaotic energy, attended by a cacophony of piping and drumming provided by a chaotic court of lesser entities known as the "Outer Gods" and the "Other Gods".
It is considered the ultimate source of all existence, yet its nature is so alien and incomprehensible that even other cosmic entities (including the likes of Cthulhu, Yog-Sothoth, and others) fear or revere it. Azathoth is said to be the embodiment of primordial chaos before all of creation, embodying the indifferent and uncaring nature of the universe and ultimate form of entropy and disorder.
Azathoth rarely interacts directly with humanity. Instead, it is often depicted as an indifferent and inscrutable force of nature. While Azathoth is not typically worshiped in the same way as other Lovecraftian entities like Cthulhu or Nyarlathotep, it is occasionally referenced in cult practices and rituals. These cults often seek to commune with or appease Azathoth, believing that it holds the key to ultimate knowledge or power. However, such endeavors usually end in madness or destruction, serving as a reminder of humanity's insignificance in the face of cosmic forces.
