Bertha Henpeck, nicknamed (affectionately?) "Chicken Pie", is a large and rather burly anthropomorphic hen and the abusive wife of Henrey. She not only mistreats him, but also forces him to do all the chores and egg guarding while she spends her time reading or playing blackjack by herself.
She is absolutely terrified of mice, however, which Herman uses to his advantage in order to help give Henry some needed comfort and support. This infuriates the hen to no end and she resorts to trying to separate the two by either alerting Herman’s wife of his deadbeat activities, disguising herself as a cat to scare him, or hiring an actual cat when her first attempt fails. And occasionally, she succeeds.
