Rena was a beautiful woman who require to wear a black cloak. She worked for the "King" who sent her to bring Castor Oyl and Bernice the Whiffle Hen to him. They had followed Lubry Kent Oyl and the hen to America but they did not want to let the other men pursuing trying to acquire the bird to know they were in the country.
However her appearance frightened Castor and he calls her a Black Ghost due her cloaked appearance. Castor then disguised himself and Bernice to lose her but Rena recognized him anyway. However Castor and Bernice are kidnapped by two scoundrels and they attempt to kill Castor to acquire the hen. They eventually hit him in the head with a club and bury him alive.
Rena follows them and tried to find out where they had taken Castor. Calling them murders and asking where the body is hidden all the while remaining out of sight. This caused the crooks to start to get paranoid and feel like they are being watched. They turn on each other and begin to fight which allowed Bernice to escape to find Castor who had dug himself out of his grave.
The local sheriff arrived at the shack the crooks were hiding in and the guilty men accidently reveal they killed someone causing the sheriff to pursue them. As they escape they see Castor Oyl and believe he is a ghost. The men jump off a cliff to escape him and Castor believed they were as good as dead.
Rena was surprised to see Castor is alive believing that the crooks had killed him and approached him once more. Terrified and still woozy from being clubbed in the head, Castor faints at the sight of Rena. She then delivers Castor and Bernice to her employer who is ecstatic to finally acquire a genuine African Whiffle Hen.
Rena goes to check on Castor who regains consciousness but is startled by her black cloak calling her a black ghost again. She removes her cloak and reveals that she is a beautiful woman which outs Castor at ease. He asked her why she wears the cloak and Rena explains her employer makes her wear it because he finds her good looks to distracting.
Rena also reveled that her employer's true identity was Mr. Fadewell the Gambler who sufferers from rheumatism that makes it hard from him to move around. Mr. Fadewell later rewards Rena's good work with an explanation of how the Whiffle hen's power work, but warns her not to tell Castor about it. However Castor overhears the whole thing. So after being given 10,000 dollars by Mr. Fadewell and told of their destination of Dice Island, Castor tricks Fadewell's hired muscle Mr. Skum and escapes with the Whiffle Hen to go to Dice Island without them. He hired the sailor Popeye to take him there.
