Origin[]

Blinky Bill is a cheeky little koala known for his mischievousness and his love for his mother. His friends include his supposed girlfriend Nutsy, his kangaroo friend Splodge, and his mentor Mr. Wombat, or 'Wombo', as Blinky prefers to call him. In general, throughout the stories, he does things that are realistic for koalas as well as things that child readers would like to do. Wall tells the stories directly to the children and Blinky often interacts with the readers in an introduction.

Notes[]

  • Despite being a post-1930 foreign work, the works featuring Blinky Bill became public domain in it's home country in 1992 which was 50 years after the death of its author. While the copyright term in Australia was made to 70+ the life of the author in 2005, it was not made retroactive.
  • In addition, since it entered the public domain in its home country prior to January 1, 1996, it was not eligible to have its copyright restored by the URAA (Uruguay Round Agreements Act) in the US allowing the character's copyright to lapse here as well.
