Origin[]
Blondie "Boopadoop" Bumstead is the titular protagionist of the comic strip Blondie by Chic Young, she is the girlfriend (later wife) of Dagwood Bumstead. She is a poor flapper who lives with her mother and at some point dated Dagwood, who was the heir to a railway fortune.
However, despite Dagwood's love for her, Mr. and Mrs. Bumstead hated Blondie due to her poverty, and often tried to get Dagwood to break up with her.
In 1933, Dagwood would propose to Blondie and they would get married. This resulted in Dagwood's parents disowning him, but the two would later to adapt to a modest, middle-class suburban life, a setting that made the comic strip more relatable to general readers during the Great Depression era.
Blondie's personality shifted from a flighty flapper to the sensible, intelligent head of the household, while Dagwood transitioned from the straight man to the comic relief character known for his love of naps and snacks.
