Origin[]
The pink, drumming bunny is an advertising character used by two corporations in different parts of the world to advertise the same product, batteries - it was conceived by Duracell in an advert where a set of drumming bunny toys were pitted against one another, with the Duracell-equipped bunny surviving the longest. As the commercial had no copyright notice and the bunny went without a trademark in the US, Energizer sniped the plot of the commercial and introduced their own, unique bunny with sunglasses, who could walk on his own and outlive even the winning bunny. As the Duracell bunny was trademarked elsewhere, Energizer were not able to use their bunny outside of America and Canada.
Notes[]
- The debut commercial for the Duracell bunny was released in the 70s without a copyright notice, making it public domain. The debut commercial for the Energizer bunny was released in the 1980s without a copyright notice and was not registered within 5 years, also making it public domain.
- Energizer owns the trademark to the pink bunny in the United States and Canada, while Duracell owns the trademark to the pink bunny elsewhere. Energizer and Duracell are both trademarked names.
