Origin[]
Rance Raleigh is the debonair owner of a high-class curio shop who lives a second life as the masked adventurer known simply as The Cavalier. His secret identity is inspired by his ancestor, the Duke de Chantrey, whose enchanted portrait hangs in Raleigh's shop, frowning whenever danger is imminent. This happens with unnerving regularity, as the curio shop inevitably figures into murders, espionage, and other trouble. While Raleigh is skilled and confident enough to do most of the leg work in solving these mysteries as himself, ultimately he adopts his masked persona to deliver the coup de grâce alongside his two-fisted assistant, Rocky (who more often than not notices the frowning portrait sooner than his boss does).
Powers and Abilities[]
- The Cavalier has no powers other than superlative swordsmanship, acrobatics, and derring-do.
- The portrait of Raleigh's ancestor frowns whenever evil is afoot, usually related to some occurrence within the curio shop itself.
