The Library of Congress started posting public domain images from a Coney Island Sideshow to Flickr in 2008. They are genuine color slides from the 1930s - 40s. One such photo was of Chief Roongwa, a former witch doctor of the Ubangi Savages!

"Ubangi" and "savages" are both terms the world no longer uses and, thus, the character would need to be updated for any type of use today.
