Origin[]
In 1971, human astronaut Chuck Dawson made the first landing on Mars, where he encountered the Plant-Thing. The Thing attempted to force Dawson to take him back with him to Earth, so that it could exterminate all life there too. Desperate to prevent the monster from reaching Earth, Dawson sacrificed himself, destroying himself and his ship, leaving the remains of the Plant-Thing to once again float aimlessly through space.
