Origin[]

In O. Henry's original story, the Cisco Kid was a 25-year-old desperado living in the Texas–Mexico border country. His real name was possibly Goodall ("This hombre they call the Kid—Goodall is his name, ain't it?"); no first name is given in the story. Unlike in later adaptations, He killed for fun and was responsible for the deaths of at least eighteen people.

The Kid also has a mixed-ancestry girlfriend, Tonia Perez, who both fears and loves him, but after meeting Texas Ranger Lieutenant Sandridge, Tonia falls in love with him instead. The Ranger was on the trail to catch the Cisco Kid, but the Kid outsmarted him and tricked Sandridge into killing his girlfriend, Tonia, instead.

In the comics published by Baily, The Cisco Kid was a wandering Robin Hood-like character traveling the American southwest and northern Mexico in the 1870s and 1880s. He is assisted by Pancho his older and overweight sidekick.
