Origin[]
Coily the Spring Sprite is a small, translucent fairy with a human-like head and hands, but his body resembles a coiled spring. Coily appears when the protagonist, Gilbert Willoughby, frustrated with repairing his couch, wishes to never see another spring again. Granting this wish, Coily removes all springs from Gilbert's reality, leading to a series of inconveniences that highlight the importance of springs in everyday life. Throughout the film, Coily reappears to taunt Gilbert with the phrase "No springs!" each time he encounters a problem caused by their absence. Ultimately, Gilbert begs for the return of springs, and Coily restores them, leaving Gilbert with a newfound appreciation for their ubiquity and utility.
