Colonel Frank Stevens led the crew of one of the three spaceships designed to find a new planet to inhabit to deal with the earth's overpopulation problem. The ship traveled beyond the Milky Way and on the first planet they visited (dubbed "Atavisius") the crew were attacked by the native creatures and fled. After dodging meteors, the second planet they found had no oxygen in the atmosphere. The third planet dubbed "Automata" was the home of metallic men who proved to be hostile. The third planet "Plethorus" appeared to be alive and landing on it risked being absorbed into the planet. Finally they landed on "Mundus" where they find the Mundusians are peaceful but suffer the same overpopulation problem. The crew returned to Earth, with Frank gaining the belief the answer they seek lies on fixing the problems on earth and not traveling somewhere else.
