Synopsis[]
Dame/Miss Weasel is the daughter of Old Weasel of Holm-wood, a family notorious for their predatory nature and strained relations with their neighbors. She is initially portrayed as a refined and delicate young lady, responsible for teaching her younger brothers and engaging in social outings.
Her life takes a romantic turn when she is injured during an attempt to befriend a young Linnet. This accident brings her into the care of young Dr. Ferret, who visits her frequently under the guise of medical attention. A romance blossoms between them, though it is complicated by family politics and the interference of old Mr. Marten, who wishes for his son Longtail to marry Miss Weasel instead.
Ultimately, Miss Weasel elopes—not with Dr. Ferret, but with Longtail Marten. This shocking betrayal fuels village gossip, as she abandons her apparent engagement to the doctor in favor of the wealth and status that Longtail offers. Her decision, however, is only a ruse, as Longtail and Ferret ultimately swap partners, with Longtail Marten running away with his true love Miss Pussy (daughter of Mrs. Hare). Miss Weasel, now married to Dr. Ferret, embraces a more adventurous and high-spirited lifestyle, reveling in hunts and lively social events.
