Origin[]

Der Captain is a central character in the long-running comic strip "The Katzenjammer Kids". Originally introduced as the sea captain of their seafaring uncle, he eventually became a surrogate father-figure as well as the primary antagonist to the mischievous duo, Hans and Fritz, often frustrated and exasperated by their antics.

Physically, Der Captain is a stout, middle-aged bald man with a large walrus-like beard, wearing a uniform reminiscent of a German naval officer. He is a strict, authoritarian figure, and embodies traditional disciplinarian value. Despite his efforts to maintain control, Der Captain's short temper is easily provoked by Hans and Fritz’ pranks and mischief, leading to humorous and chaotic situations where he is frequently outwitted and thwarted.

Despite his stern demeanor, Der Captain occasionally displays moments of vulnerability, adding depth to his character and highlighting his struggles to maintain control in the face of constant challenges.
