Origin[]
The Dover Boys are a trio of siblings attending the prestigious Pimento University in New York State. Tom, the largest, is fun-loving and assumes the leadership position. Dick, dressed in a straw hat, is the most serious and possibly the eldest (being a lad of eighteen summers plus a winter in Florida) despite his size. Larry, the youngest, is decked in a blue beret. All three share a particular skill in bicycling, riding everything from a tandem to a unicycle.
The three siblings are romantically engaged with "Dainty" Dora Standpipe, a demure student from a neighboring all-girls academy. Their relationship is more of a lighthearted affair, consisting more of innocent games like hide-and-seek than anything promiscuous. In addition, the Dover Boys are the arch rivals of the jealous and scheming Dan Backslide, whom they have faced and foiled countless times over.
Despite their strong sense of school spirit, the three are quite prone to their own arrogance, becoming too preoccupied with their competitive game of hide-in-seek and unintentionally punching one other's lights out as they are about to land a heavy blow. They are also implied to not be on friendly terms with the narrator.
