Origin[]
An ominous hooded figure was haunting Hillcrest Sanitarium, where a string of mysterious suicides has begun to raise suspicion. After actor Bruce Baron’s apparent suicide, ace investigator Chic Farrel is called in to uncover the truth. The hooded man kidnaps nurse Mary Black, claiming she rejected him and vowing to prove that brain transplants are possible by replacing her mind with that of his brutish assistant, Quando.
When Farrel intervenes, but he is captured and chained, while the hooded man plans to bury the nurse alive. Farrel escapes, defeats Quando, and Dr. Reynard rescues Mary. The masked villain is ultimately revealed as Dr. Delamorte, the sanitarium’s head brain specialist, who has been blackmailing patients, destroying their minds with drugs, and murdering them once they outlived their usefulness.
