Eric Vornoff was a controversial renowned forign scientist who conducted a series of groundbreaking experiments with atomic energy. But when proposing to use the experimental energy to create superhumans of great strength and size, Eric was declared a madman and exiled by the government, forced to leave his wife and son and go into hiding.
He fled to America and proceeded to build a secret laboratory beneath the old abandoned Willows House near Lake Marsh, California. Accompanied by his giant lab assistant Lobo, Eric proceeded with his experiments to create a new race of atomic supermen that would conquer the world, killing any intruders to his pet octopus which he kept in the lake. His goals were thwarted, however, by the local policemen investigating a series of missing persons in the area, accompanied by female journalist Janet Lawton.
In a last ditch effort, Eric had managed to capture Janet through hypnosis and planned on turning her into his next atomic weapon. However, Lobo found himself attracted to the reporter and proceeded to help her escape by attacking Eric, subjecting him to the process he planned for Janet. The experiment was successful and Eric was transformed into a mindless, near-invulnerable zombie possessing atomic strength.
The superhuman Eric proceeded to kill Lobo and attack the police, deflecting all their gunfire. However, amidst the tremulous rainstorm, Eric was knocked into the lake and attacked by his own octopus. Lightning struck them both, blowing them to smithereens in a fiery explosion.
