- The short's horror overtones made it unusual for a Mickey Mouse cartoon. Some theaters refused to show it, believing it to be too scary for kids. At one time, it was banned in both Great Britain and Germany.
- Also peculiar (for obvious reasons) is Disney's use of "XXX". This name is not a sexual innuendo, but rather a pun on the film Doctor X, released a year earlier.
