Origin[]
Drum was Christopher Fenn's dog. When Fenn goes to help Lady Debra Seeley with an infestation of ghost druids, he takes the loyal Drum along. Fenn temporarily turns himself, Drum, and Lady Seeley into 'ghosts' through the use of his dematerialization machine. Carrying a sprig of holly, which he knows the druids must respect as sacred, the three confront the ghosts. Fenn also saying they are friendly ghosts to boot, hoping to further convince the druids.
During negotiations, a servant girl from Lady Seeley's house stumbles into the picture. The druids capture the girl and prepare to sacrifice her. Fenn attempts to extend the protection of the holly to include the girl, which serves to anger the ghosts and increase their suspicion.
Sensing danger, Drum attacks the head druid, setting the ghosts into disarray. Knowing that druids have a superstitious fear of Roman fortifications, Fenn tells them all to run to the nearby Roman ruins. The three of them do so. They stay until the druids disperse, and are safe. Unfortunately, Drum's body was found ritually slain by the druids.
Afterward, villagers tell of encountering a ghost dog that fits Drum's description, and the druid ghosts no longer appear. Christopher Fenn attribute this to Drum's ghostly intervention.
