Felix is a friendly cat who had many surreal adventures. He could do strange things such as detaching his own tail to use as various kinds of tools, and doing such strange things as climbing the notes suspended in air around him when he whistled.
His circle of friends include his love-interest Kitty Kat, his nephews Inky and Dinky, the Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs, and Old King Cole.

- The character was named "Master Tom" in his first two appearances.
- Felix was the world's most popular cartoon star before Mickey Mouse.
- Only the original iteration of Felix as he appeared in the silent films and the Van Beuren shorts are public domain. All iterations of Felix from the 1958-60 TV series onward remain under copyright by DreamWorks Animation/NBCUniversal, the current owner of the Felix the Cat intellectual property.
