Origin[]

Fenrir, also called Fenrisúlfr or Fenris, was an antagonistic being in Norse mythology under the shape of a monstrous wolf.

Fenrir, along with Hel and the World Serpent, was a child of Loki and female jötunn Angrboða. It was prophetized that Fenir would be the end of Odin during Raganrok.

Due to the gods' knowledge of prophecies foretelling great trouble from Fenrir and his rapid growth, the gods bound him and as a result Fenrir bit off the right hand of the god Týr.

Fenrir was the father of the wolves Sköll and Hati Hróðvitnisson who were destined to swallow the sun and moon during Ragnarök.

Fenrir is sometimes assumed to be identical to Garmr, the guard dog of Hel. During Ragnarök, Tyr's opponent will be Garmr where as Fenrir was foretold to kill the god Odin then Fenrir will in turn be killed by Odin's son Víðarr.
