The Flame Girl was a fire spirit who lived in a dormant volcano called Lerodu located in a remote corner of Africa. According to legends of the local villagers, back when the Earth was young her people the fire spirits emerged from deep in the Earth to explore the surface.However they encountered rain which killed many of them. Since then the fire spirits dreaded the surface world and see all on the surface as their enemies.
One day she encounters a geologist named Edwin Marlo who had been knocked out by volcanic fumes while trying to study the volcano. She wanted to help him get back to the village but a trio of male fire spirits refused worried that he could expose their existence to the outside world. However the Flame Girl threatens to expose their existence herself if they don't help the man. So they reluctantly agreed to help him and return the man to the edge of the nearest village where she says goodbye to the man from the surface.
The injured geologist wakes up in a jungle hospital believing that everything he saw including the Flame Girl was just a dream. However his doctor and nurse discuss outside his room that his multiple fractures should heal fast but not his burns which they wonder where he got them. The nurse especially wondered about the one shaped like a woman's hand print.
