Origin[]

The Funeral Mountain terrashot is a species of fearsome critter from American folklore, specifically lumberjack oral tradition, said to be the namesake of the Funeral Mountains in California.

The creatures have a casket-shaped body and very wobbly legs, causing them to sway in different directions when walking. The Funeral Mountain terrashots live in high-altitude environments, and gradually reproduce into a large herd. They all then gain the sudden urge to migrate a leave the mountains, though none of them are able to make it through.

It is said that a group of Mormon emigrants had an encounter with a herd of the strange creatures, watching them climb down the then-unnamed mountains into the desert, all in a single-file line. As they reached the sand of the desert, the Mormons were able to watch their fate, as the creatures overload from the heat of the hot sand and explode one by one, leaving grave-shaped holes in the sand.
