George Appleby was a normal man that attempted to marry a woman named Nancy Carver after saving for an engagement ring for two years. She rejected him for a man in Los Angeles named Donald, breaking the man's heart. George attempted to refund the ring to no avail, but was offered store credit with a wrist stop watch. George tried it, noticing it stopped time when he pressed the button and accepted it. Before long he kept pausing time around town and at a track meet pull-vaulting competition. George used this power to stop Nancy from getting to the airport only to find out he rapidly aged into an old man as each minute he stopped aged a full year of his life.
