Origin[]
Hopalong Cassidy was a ranch hand on the Bar 20 Ranch in Western Texas, around the time of Billy the Kid (1870s). He walked with a limp, as a result of an injury from a shootout in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when he was young. He received the name "Hopalong" as a result of that limp, but making fun of the limp had resulted in the death of more than one man. Hopalong had a code of honor, but was generally ill tempered. He cursed, smoked, chewed tobacco and was both feared and respected. He has a strong camaraderie with his fellow ranch hands on the Bar 20.

Hopalong was one of the fastest guns in the west, and an incredibly deadly gunfighter. He was also an exceptional rider and poker player.
