Origin[]
Ixodes maloni is the scientific name given to a new species of particularly large bloodsucking ticks which have been discovered by Prof. Challenger's 1911 expedition to the Maple White Land - a nigh-inaccessible plateau in South America inhabited by strange and fantastic creatures. They have been named after Edward Malone, the first member of the expedition to have been bitten by them. Their appearance is similar to a large, purplish grape. Like other blood ticks, they have a lancet-like proboscis used to pierce their hosts, and a distending stomach to store blood in it.
