Jack was a character from the 1922 Laugh-O-Gram shorts. He is based on the character of the same name from the tale Jack and the Beanstalk or the Giant Killer as well as The Prince from the fairy tale Cinderella by Charles Perrault and the penniless and low-born master of Puss in Boots. His first appearance was an adaptation of the classic featuring Jack, his mother, Julius the Cat, and the giant.

In his next cartoon Jack the Giant Killer, Jack went to a fair together with Julius, a dog and a girl named Susie. Jack and his friend are were looking at a poster that announced a giant, which said "Giant caught in the jungle of WOOF IN POOF". Jack wanted to impress Susie with his ambition to visit the Land of the Giants. She watched as he demonstrated the strength with which he would conquer the giant. Jack and the animals got on a boat, without Susie.

After weathering a storm, a sawfish approached the group's boat and cut it in half. Jack and his animal friends escaped to land while the fish blinds their saw on the rock. They locate sign that announced "This is the land of WOOF IN POOF; Danger Giants" letting the group know they had arrived. Jack and his friends then hid behind some rocks to spy on some giants who were playing golf. The giant shouted "FORE!" even before he hit the ball, and everything in sight accelerated.

Next Jack arrived at a prison with a sign saying "Giant Ville; Danger". Surprisingly, Susie was stuck in jail and Jack promised to save her. The giants then appeared and beat up Jack. However, he seemed to be unharmed, but was chased all over the place even in and out of several holes in the ground. Finally, the cat and the dog signal to Jack about a tripwire they setup and so he lead the giants into it to stumble and fall into off the cliff and right into the mouths of giant sharks. Then the animals brought an elephant who helps them rescue Susie and took everyone on their way. Susie had fallen in love with Jack and they kiss as they pulled away from the tusks of the elephant.

Unfortunately, this whole story was just a story Jack was telling Susie, with her saying "You'll have to do better than that!" The last part of the movie involved another kid coming in and bringing some flowers to Susie, and she goes out with him. Frustrated, Jack fell to the ground and throws himself out while his animal friends try to revive him.

In Puss in Boots, Julius played the role of Puss in Boots and helped Jack win the heart of the Princess by enlisting him in a bullfight.

In Cinderella, The traditional story was imagined with Cinderella as a 1920's flapper, featuring Susie (as Cinderella), Jack (as the Prince), and Julius the Cat.
