Origin[]
Jiggs a working-class Irish-American hod carrier who came into wealth in the United States by winning a million dollars in a sweepstakes. He is a portly, middle-aged man with a round face, a small button nose, and a perpetual five o'clock shadow. He often wears a top hat, vest, and a suit that is slightly too small for his girth.
Despite his newfound wealth, Jiggs struggles to adjust to the upper-class lifestyle that his wife Maggie desires of them. He remains down-to-earth, enjoying the simple pleasures like food, drink, and socializing with friends at the local pub. Despite his lovable personality, he is also lazy and hapless, easily manipulated by Maggie and often trying to find ways to avoid work and responsibilities.
The couple also have two children; a daughter named Nora and a son named Ethelbert.
