John Brett is revealed to be a robot.
100 years into the future, John Brett was told to fly "Earth's greatest treasure" past a horde of space pirates encroaching on the planet, but Pildorr was monitoring the radio broadcasts and intercepted Brett. Pildorr made Brett walk the plank, sentencing him to drift in orbit forever, before opening the box which contained Earth's most powerful cobalt bomb rigged to detonate upon opening. Earth sent up a ship to retrieve Brett from orbit, because although he had no spacesuit, he suffered no ill effects, being a robot.
