The “ Hellfire” is a firy supernatural entity that appeared in the 1929 cartoon Hell's Bells.
By 1929, this pool of sentient hellfire resided at the bottom of a chasm in the depths of Hell. Seemingly not loyal to the Devil in any way, the Living Hellfire reached out with hands of fire to pull him down and consume him when a Rebellious Imp managed to get the Devil to fall into the chasm.
