Origin[]

Loki was both a member of the Norse pantheon and a jötunn or giant. Loki was a shapeshifter who appeared in forms such as a salmon, mare, seal, a fly, and possibly an elderly woman.

He was the son of Fárbauti and Laufey. He also had two siblings Helblindi and Býleistr. Loki's children included Hel, Fenrir, and Jörmungandr who he fathered with jötunn Angrboða. With his wife Sigyn, Loki fathered Narfi and/or Nari. Finally by stallion Svaðilfari, Loki gave birth in the form of a mare Sleipnir, Odin's eight-legged horse .

Loki was responsible for the death of the god Baldr with a mistletoe arrow. As punishment, Loki was tied to a rock with the entrails of his own son with a serpent placed above him to drip venom on him for all eternity. His wife collected the venom into a bowl, but when she emptied the bowl after it was filled, Loki was left to writhe in pain from the venom falling onto him. Legend said this writhing caused earthquakes.

During Ragnarök, Loki was foretold escape his bonds and to fight against the gods with the giant. He will encounter the god Heimdallr and they will kill each other in battle.
