Origin[]
In Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens, Peter meets Maimie, a lost, 4-year-old girl. The two become friends, with Peter asking her to marry him. Maimie agrees to stay with him but, realises her mother must be missing her so, leaves to return home. Maimie does not forget Peter, however, and, when she is older, makes presents and letters for him, even giving him an imaginary goat which he rides around every night, in order to remember her.
Notes[]
- Much like Cynthia Cynch being the predecessor to the character of Nimmie Amee, Maimie was an early prototype for the character of Wendy Darling (even though the story featuring Maimie wasn't published until two years after the play starring Wendy).
