Mantoka was a Native American mystery man who given the powers of his Father, the tribe's Shaman, after a shamanic initiation during which a rattlesnake bit him and he presumably had a vision. Afterward he discovered he was now a shapeshifter, could freeze objects, set things on fire, and could also change the shape of other objects. Using his new powers, Mantoka rescues his tribe's hunters who were being enslaved by a white man to work in his mine and then goes on to fight crime.
