Monsieur Morrel, owner of the Pharaon and Dantès’s loyal employer, does all he can to free Dantès and later suffers financial ruin. Unbeknownst to him, Dantès, disguised as a banker, repays his loyalty by secretly saving him from bankruptcy. His son, Maximilien Morrel, inherits his father’s virtue and devotion.
