Origin[]
Mr. Patato Head, originally debuted by Hasbro in 1952, is a toy consisting of an actual potato comprising the head and/or body and various attachable parts, such as eyes, ears, a nose, and a mouth. The toy encouraged creativity and imaginative play by allowing children to create different faces and expressions by detaching and rearranging the pieces.
Notes[]
- The copyrights for the original Mr. Potato Head were not renewed in 1980.
- Mr. Potato Head is still trademarked by Hasbro, so the name can only be used within the interior of a story, not to promote an unrelated brand.
- The character was originally designed using real potatoes. However, due to complaints of food rot and safety regulations, the real potato was later replaced by a plastic substitute in 1964. This version of the toy is still patented by Hasbro.
- The female counterpart, Mrs. Potato Head, debuted much later and is likely still under copyright.
