Origin[]

Mrs. Potato Head, debuted by Hasbro in 1953, is a toy consisting of an actual potato comprising the head and/or body and various attachable parts, such as eyes, ears, a nose, and a mouth. The toy encouraged creativity and imaginative play by allowing children to create different faces and expressions by detaching and rearranging the pieces. Her husband is Mr. Potato Head.

Notes[]

  • The copyrights for the original Mrs. Potato Head were not renewed in 1981.
  • Mrs. Potato Head is still trademarked by Hasbro, so the name can only be used within the interior of a story, not to promote an unrelated brand. In addition, the well-known Toy Story version of Mrs. Potato Head is of course copyrighted.
  • The character was designed using real potatoes. However, due to complaints of food rot and safety regulations, the real potato was later replaced by a plastic substitute in 1964. This version of the toy is still patented by Hasbro.
