Bozo in Little Nemo in Slumberland (1925).

A married couple adopts a mysterious small animal they find wandering in their yard. Feeling pity for the beast, the wife decides to feed the creature, only to discover that it has an insatiable appetite. It consumes all the milk and noticeably grows larger.

While the couple asleep in their bed, the growing creature escapes its pen and starts eating anything it can find in the house, including furniture, the other pets, and even rat poison. Soon, it escapes the house and, with its increased size, begins consuming passing vehicles, including entire cars, trollies, airplanes and a blimp, all the while growing increasingly larger and larger.

As it wanders among the skyscrapers of the city, a swarm of military zeppelins gather around and proceed to blow the beast to smithereens, wrecking the city in the process. However, it is revealed in the end that the whole thing was just a nightmare that the wife had while asleep.

In a 1925 comic strip of Little Nemo in Slumberland, a beast named Bozo is brought out to clean up the fallen leaves covering King Morpheus' lawn. The creature bears a striking resemblance to the Pet.
