Pete (also known as Peg-Leg Pete or Bootleg Pete) is a cartoon villain created in 1925 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. He is the nemesis of Mickey Mouse, Oswald The Lucky Rabbit and Julius the Cat.
He is often depicted as the cartoon protagonist's abusive, cigar-smoking boss (though in the case of Steamboat Willie, he could be considered a reasonable force), or a rival for the affection of Minnie Mouse or Sadie, being successful on rare occasion.
In some Alice Comedies cartoons, he can be seen commanding a group of mouse henchmen and was shown to be a member of a Cat Army in the Barnyard Battle.
In The Cactus Kid, he is the villainous “Pegleg Pedro” who threatens Minnie, prompting Mickey to rescue her. In The Chain Gang, Pete assumes the role of a jailer, overseeing Mickey as a prisoner and pursuing him with bloodhounds when he attempts to escape, reinforcing his recurring role as a menacing, troublemaking adversary.
In Broadway Folly he is shown to have a son.

Notes[]
Pete as a bear in an Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon
- Pete was originally a bear in the Alice Comedies and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoons, and was first depicted as a cat in Steamboat Willie.
- Pete's peg-leg debuted in the Alice Comedies, but was not given to his cat self until The Cactus Kid (1930).
- Pete's entire appearance was completely redesigned in "The Cactus Kid" to one that is nearly identical to how he is usually depicted today.
