Origin[]

Pulgasari is the titular monster of the 1985 North Korean kaiju film Pulgasari which based on the mythological creature of the same name.

Pulgasari is a muscular minotaur-like creature with dark brown fur, large horns, and plates of golden armor covering its underbelly.

A small monster figurine comes into contact with its sculptor's daughter's blood, turning it into an enormous monster that grows exponentially whenever it eats metal.

Ami tricks Pulgasari into eating her, causing it to transform into a stone statue. The statue crumbles, revealing a baby version of Pulgasari that is then sucked into Ami's lifeless body.

  • The 1985 film Pulgasari was first published in North Korea and is now in the public domain because its copyright protection has expired by virtue of the 2001 Copyright Law of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, enacted 2001.
  • The film was made by director Shin Sang-ok after he was kidnapped by North Korean intelligence and forced to make the film on the orders of Kim Jong-il.
  • The Steel/Rock Pokémon, Aggron and it’s mega evolution is based on the Pulgasari and how it appeared in the 1985 film.
