Origin[]

Described in his first appearance as a mutant pterodactyl, Reptisaurus and his mate spent millennia in a state of suspended animation on their desert island home until atomic testing awoke the creatures from their slumber. After awakening, the monsters and their offspring ended up saving the Earth from an invasion of aliens from Jupiter looking to colonize the Earth. Victorious, Reptisaurus and his family then retreated deep underground to slumber for another 100,000 years.

However, after some time passed, Reptisaurus and his mate soon awakened and after circumventing the globe looking for food, they encountered each other in Florida. Initially, the military believed they were fighting, but it turned out to be their courtship ritual.

The military then tried to eliminate the monster by firing an atomic missile, but Reptisaurus emerged from the blast unscathed and made it way to China, where it fell in love with a mechanical dragon. The Russians and the Chinese tried to use the robot as a Trojan horse by filling it with remote detonated explosives to kill Reptisaurus when it got close. Once again the blast left him unharmed, but heartbroken that his new mate was destroyed, the monster retreated to the Himalayas to recover where the Abominable Snowman observed him.

Notes[]

  • In 1961, Charlton Comics produced a comic book based on the film Reptilicus, which lasted two issues. After their license had lapsed, Charlton modified the creature's appearance, re-colored it, renamed it Reptisaurus and created new stories. This continuation lasted six issues (#3-8) before the series was cancelled.
  • In 2009, there was a film called Reptisaurus based on the comic book character.
