Origin[]
Rocky Jones epitomizes the archetypal space hero of the 1950s, known as the quintessential Space Ranger patrolling the United Worlds of the Solar System. With his clean-cut appearance, square jaw, and unwavering moral compass, Rocky embodies bravery, strength, and integrity. His handsome features and chivalrous demeanor make him irresistible to women, even drawing the attention of the cunning arch-villainess Cleolanta.
As the leader of his crew, Rocky commands respect and loyalty through his courageous actions and steadfast principles. He is always prepared to defend his beliefs and protect the innocent, often resorting to physical confrontations rather than resorting to lethal force. Despite facing daunting odds on their missions to moons and planetoids, Rocky and his crew consistently emerge victorious aboard their iconic spacecraft, the Orbit Jet XV-2 or its successor, the Silver Moon XV-3.
While Rocky is proficient in handling advanced technology and piloting spacecraft, his true strength lies in his unwavering determination and sense of justice. Throughout his adventures, Rocky serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration, embodying the ideals of heroism and honor in the vast expanse of outer space.
His trusted allies include:
- Winky - Rocky's faithful co-pilot and sidekick, the womanizing Winky is the upbeat comic relief to balance the always serious Rocky. His position would later be taken up by Biffen "Biff" Cardoza.
- Vena Ray - The beautiful blond who serves as Rocky's navigator and translator. Vena was considered a strong female role model.
- Bobby - The young ward of Professor Newton who wants to grow up to be a Space Ranger. No mention is ever made of Bobby's parents or origins.
- Professor Newton - a trusty physicist who could always be counted on to provide the scientific explanation for the fantastic events that unfolded. Although elderly, Newton would often accompany the spaceship crew on their adventures. He would later be succeeded by Professor Mayberry.
- Secretary Drake - Head of the Office of Space Affairs and the Space Rangers. Secretary Drake serves as a father-like figure to Rocky and his crew, and Drake likewise treats Rocky like his own son.
