Scarlet Pimpernel was really Sir Percy Blakeney one of the richest men in England. He was considered a fool by his peers, but in reality he was the savior of those condemned to the guillotine during the French Revolution's "Reign of Terror" (5 September 1793 – 28 July 1794).
He was a master of disguise, swordsman, and strategist.
The Scarlet Pimpernel was assisted by his wife Marguerite and the League of the Pimpernel, a band of his devoted followers.
His archenemy was Chauvelin, a sadistic French agent who was obssessed with capturing the Scarlet Pimpernel and unmasking him.
