Star Pirate was the self-described "Robin Hood of the Spaceways" who lived in some unspecified point in the future. Contrary to what his name may suggest, he barely did any pirating. Most of the time, he fought monstrous aliens, fellow criminals, corrupt rulers and members of the corrupt Space Patrol, a police organization that operated throughout the Solar System. He was originally non-powered, put he later acquired a pair of rocket boots that allowed him to jump to great heights and fly for short periods of time. That said, he was more of a thinker than a fighter. Star Pirate was adept at getting his enemies to turn against each other and winning through a combination of fisticuffs and subterfuge.
Star Pirate's Companions[]
During the course of his career, he had three different companions. They appeared in succession, each disappearing off-panel before his successor took his place. They were (in order of appearance):
- Trodelyte (Trody) - a one-eyed alien who was meek and soft-spoken, yet selflessly loyal to Star Pirate. And, in spite of what his usual demeanor suggested, he was never a coward - it's just that he preferred caution over theatrics.
- Guro - a green, amphibious alien. In contrast to Trody, he was more outgoing and more hands-on in his approach.
- Blackbeard (Blackie) - a fellow space pirate, except he was actually engaged in pirating. Before meeting Star Pirate, he had his own crew and spaceship. Fat and frequently shirtless, he was the jolliest of all of Star Pirate's companions. Unlike his predecessors, Blackbeard had a selfish streak. Although he was loyal to Star Pirate most of the time, he seldom missed an opportunity to get something for himself. In one adventure, he acquired an invisibility helmet and tried to use it in a scheme to rip-off Star Pirate. What he didn't realize was that Star Pirate anticipated his companion's actions and had the part that actually made the invisibility helmet work removed before Blackbeard got his hands on it. Nonetheless, he continued wearing it even after discovering that it didn't actually work, keeping it until his last appearance.
