In the novel, he is a monkey born from a stone who acquires supernatural powers through Taoist practices. After rebelling against heaven and being imprisoned under a mountain by the Buddha, he later accompanies the Tripitaka along with his companions Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing on a journey to retrieve Buddhist sutras from India.
Notes[]
- Journey to the West inspired Akira Toriyama to create the manga series Dragon Ball; Son Goku, the main character, is inspired by Sun Wukong himself.
- The Pokemon Infernape, originally from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, is based on Sun Wukong.
