Public Domain Super Heroes

Since all we have of Captain Shazam is the name, and the existing Shazam copyright/trademark would keep anyone from actually using that name on the cover or as a selling point, is there actually a "Public Domain Super Hero" here?

If you want their to be, sure! Cebr1979 (talk) 19:04, August 29, 2014 (UTC)

I more put it here to show the history and to show that DC Comics never sued when this happened.Cebr1979 (talk) 19:16, August 29, 2014 (UTC)

Back when Captain Shazam was proposed/created, DC Comics had no claim to the word "Shazam", as the only one using it at the time was Gomer Pyle.  Absent any long-lost story pages, we have no idea if this Captain bore much resemblance to the original Captain Marvel (obviously, Fatman had the same taste in costumes)--he might just as well have been a companion feature to Super Green Beret!  I've just always wondered what this character might have been like, and keep hoping that someone out there has seen more than just that one ad page.Comics North (talk) 18:12, September 2, 2014 (UTC)
