'70s revival?[]

from the Public Domain Heroes facebook group:

"In 1973, Alan Hewetson revived the "Lady Satan" name for a very different sort of character. Due to improper copyright notices, the magazines in which she appeared were public domain upon publication. This character--Anne Jason, who was possessed by the spirit of an evil witch who wanted to be the mother of Satan's child--was the first female African American character to star in her own comic book series.
NUELOW Games recently collected, for the first time anywhere, all the 1970s "Lady Satan" stories in one place. Check 'em out!"

and from the product page:

After being dormant for centuries, a spirit of ultimate evil stirs and seizes control of young Anne Jason's body. What follows is a violent struggle for control of a life that's been stolen... and to stop the will of Satan to be manifest on Earth.

Lady Satan 1974 is the first-ever collection of the entire series that first ran in Scream and Psycho magazines from Skywald Publishing. Hewetson's creation is a little remarked upon milestone in American comics history, as it was the first series to star an African Amercian woman (even if she was possessed by a Bride of Satan for much of each of the four chapters).

Skywald also put out the magazines where Hell-Rider and Butterfly first appeared. Could there be more public domain characters waiting to be found in their magazines? JoeFrankenstein (talk) 18:52, December 15, 2015 (UTC)

Skywald only had two issues, I think we've got 'em all (except for a biker or two maybe).Cebr1979 (talk) 22:53, December 15, 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, I hadn't read your whole post. Ya, this looks cool. You can read the story here. Pretty cool!Cebr1979 (talk) 22:59, December 15, 2015 (UTC)

The more I look into this, the more it is very interesting info! As near as I can tell, this "Lady Satan" seems to be the only ongoing character, others feel like one-shot anthology stories (though I haven't read all of them yet and there's certainly nothing wrong with PD characters who have only one appearance). The copyrights on the ones I've looked at are definitely wrong (and identical from one to the other so the likelihood of any of the ones I haven't looked at being correct is slim to none) so, all of the stories would be PD. I'll message Steve (the founder of Nuelow Games) and see if he can offer any other info about them. Good find, Joe! Cebr1979 (talk) 03:42, December 16, 2015 (UTC)
