Origin[]
Terry Dane was a sharp-witted and fearless private detective, who often investigated dangerous cases alongside her boyfriend, Doug Danville, the masked hero known as the Black Owl.
Over her many adventures, Terry proves herself to be resourceful and courageous, tackling everything from hidden-treasure hunts to deadly criminal masterminds. She aids the Cranes in searching their inherited castle for treasure, only to uncover a gang led by a masked “Cobra Head” caretaker. She later investigates Dr. Devil, a sadistic kidnapper burying men alive for a foreign government’s army, surviving near-death alongside the Black Owl.
Terry also faces bizarre foes like the grinning saboteur Funnibone, the international jewel thief Madame Mystery, and the killer-for-hire known as the Reaper. She often outsmarted them or helped the Black Owl expose their schemes. Even when targeted herself, such as by Tiger Lady, a vengeful circus trainer using tigers for murder, Terry remains undaunted.
Her cases take her from dark alleys to Hollywood film sets, where she’s hired to protect an actress in the Toad case, only to uncover yet another deadly impostor. Whether confronting spies, killers, or criminals in disguise, Terry Dane consistently proves herself as clever and courageous as any hero of her time, an equal partner to the Black Owl, not just his companion.
