Origin[]

Tsukuyomi is the moon deity in Japanese mythology and Shinto, born from Izanagi’s right eye during his purification after escaping the underworld. He is one of the “three noble children” alongside Amaterasu and Susanoo. In myth, Tsukuyomi killed Ukemochi, the food goddess, angering Amaterasu, who then separated from him in the sky, explaining why day and night are apart. His role is more prominent in the Nihon Shoki than in the Kojiki.
